Student Name: Elise Nguyen
Student Email: 18en1@queensu.ca

Course: ENGL 100
Term: Summer
Year: 2020
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Elise Nguyen:

I was sorry to read that you struggled with physical health-related challenges as well as family issues during the summer semester and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ENGL 100 (S 2020) past the academic deadline. I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.

I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances, but I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to manage a chronic or on-going condition. Going forward, you should pause and evaluate your progress in your studies by the drop date deadlines and if you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop courses by the drop date. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I see that you had a strong performance in your courses during the Fall term Elise and I wish you continued success with your degree progression and future academic pursuits.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
