Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 7295
Decision Date: February 22, 2021
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Jasmin Smallwood
Student Email: 15js64@queensu.ca
Dear Jasmin Smallwood:
I was sorry to read that you were struggling with health-related challenges which you have outlined and after carefully considering your appeal to drop MATH 225 (W 2019), MATH 221, PHYS 206 (F 2019) and PHYS 212, PHYS 250, PHYS 372 (W 2020) past the academic deadline, I have decided to grant your appeal.
I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances and the strong documentation and support you received from your counsellor at the Edgewood Rehabilitation Centre. The report from your counsellor is most encouraging and I do hope you continue to succeed in your goals.
Jasmin, going forward, a good practice for all students to follow, is to evaluate their progress in their studies during week 7 of the term. If a student has fallen behind in a course or finds the material too difficult, they should drop courses by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students. I also encourage you to consider registering with QSAS and work with a QSAS advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health-related challenges if you feel that would be helpful.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Best of luck in your continued recovery and your future academic pursuits.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
