Dear Taylor Moran:
I was sorry to read of the challenges you have outlined in your letter of appeal, and I have carefully considered your request to drop MATH 121, CHEM 112 (FW 2020/21); ASTR 101 (F 2020); ANAT 100, COGS 100, BIOL 103 (W 2021) past the academic deadline and receive Credit standing in BIOL 102 (F 2020). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Your grade BIOL 102 will appear on your transcript as CR.
I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances and since you have sought out help from your doctor and a psychotherapist. But I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I would encourage you to work with your Counsellor and consider registering with QSAS if you have not done so already. A QSAS Advisor can help you manage both your health and your academics. This could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
