Dear Noor El Hussein,

I am sorry to have read of your ongoing mental health issues and of the passing of your friend and want to offer you my condolences. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop BIOL 102 and CISC 101 (F 2020) after the academic deadline and have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal due to the severity of your extenuating circumstances but also want to let you know that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. Going forward, you should pause to evaluate the impact of your health on your studies during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

I also encourage you to consider registering with QSAS, if you have not done so already, so that you can work with an accommodation advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health-related challenges.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
