Course: ENGL162
Term: Winter
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Daniel Lambert:

I am sorry to read that you were confused regarding the dropping of ENGL 162 (W 2021) and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop that course past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have exercised significant leniency in this decision since an appeal to drop a course late would normally require documentation and an extenuating circumstance which prevented you from dropping a course by the drop date deadline. However, I have received information which demonstrated that you did not submit any course work in ENGL 162 so does lead me to believe that you thought you had indeed dropped that course.

Going forward, I suggest that you carefully review your transcript after you drop a course to ensure it was done successfully. A good practice as well for all students Daniel is to review your progress in your courses during week 7 or 8 of the term and assess whether you are actively engaged in your courses and are completing your assignments on time and to the grade level you would like. If not, you should drop courses by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute after that date.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
