Dear Katherine Radzichovski:

I have carefully considered your appeal for Aegrotat Standing in ENGL 200 (FW 2020/2021). After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.

I acknowledge that you have been impacted with ongoing health issues throughout the Winter term however, the information that I received from your instructor indicates that you were accommodated appropriately in their class. I see that you had applied for Academic Consideration on March 18, 2021, the same date that your final essay was due, but you did not supply any supporting documentation within that request. I also see that you applied for Academic Consideration for the timeline of March 31 €“ April 28, 2021, after the assignment was due, yet your documentation suggests a mild impact of your health issues at that time. I have also looked at the additional doctors note that you supplied within your appeal request that mentions a March 15, 2021 start date however this letter fails to speak to the severity of your situation at that time.

Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)€. I understand that this is a disappointing decision however, you were accommodated appropriately by your instructor throughout the Winter term and your appeal fails to confirm your reasons for not completing the outstanding assignment before the dates of impact as indicated on your supporting documentation and so I simply cannot grant your request for Aegrotat Standing at this time.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€).
