Dear Amaya Rojas,

I have reviewed your appeal request to drop SPAN 204 (Fall 2020), HIST 106 (Winter 2021) and ARTH 120 (Summer 2021) after the academic deadline, and I have decided the following:

1) To grant your request to drop SPAN 204 (Fall 2020) and HIST 106 (Winter 2021). I acknowledge that you were experiencing difficulties in your first year related to ongoing health issues as you were proactive in reducing your course load during both the Fall and Winter terms by dropping classes before the drop deadlines. Please know that a chronic condition such as this may not be grounds for a future appeal. Going forward, I suggest that you consider registering with Queen??s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) so that you can work with an Advisor to help you better manage the impact of your health on your academics.

2) To deny your request to drop ARTH 120 (Summer 2021). As you had been utilizing the drop deadlines during both the previous Winter and Fall terms, it was your responsibility to continue to do so during the 2021 Summer term as well. Going forward, I suggest that you evaluate your academic progress in your courses before the drop deadline of the term and drop courses that you have fallen behind in or find the material too difficult in before the last date to drop. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Please know that repeating a failed course is a recommended strategy for students who are concerned about their GPA. When repeating the exact same course code, both courses will appear on the transcript but only the higher attempt will be included within the cumulative GPA.
