I was sorry to read of the circumstances you outlined in your letter of appeal, no doubt this has been a difficult time for you and your family and I am sorry for your loss. Based on that circumstance, I will grant your appeal to drop GNDS 212 (F 2021) past the academic deadline.
I encourage you to consider reaching out to Student Wellness Services, which is a free counselling service available to all Queen??s students, who may be able to support you during this difficult time of grief. If your circumstances require ongoing accommodations Lily, you may want to register with QSAS who can help support both your health and academics by putting in place appropriate accommodations so you can meet your course work requirements.
Going forward, a good practise for all students is to carefully evaluate their progress in courses prior to week 7 and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding.
