Dear Martha:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal of the difficult circumstances you explained, and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop LLCU 249, DEVS 220 (F 2020) and DEVS 300, HIST 254, DEVS 352 (W 2021) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request based on the documentation provided which notes that you are engaged in counselling and will continue to do so this term.

Martha, going forward I encourage you to manage the impact of your circumstances on your academics proactively and not through the appeal process. You should carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Martha, I strongly encourage you to follow through with your plan to work with Barb Lotan and to proactively manage the impact of your challenges on your academics. If this becomes a chronic concern, please talk to Ms. Lotan about the possibility of registering with QSAS. A QSAS??Advisor??can help put into place appropriate accommodations to help you manage the impact of your circumstances on your academics.??
