Dear Zheng Li:
I have carefully considered your appeal to extend your Incomplete grade in ECON 223 (S 2021). After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, Appeal Regulation 3.3.5 notes that Incomplete grades are approved by instructors with outstanding work deadlines extended for a period of one full term after the completion of a class and is usually granted. Normally, this is an option when only a minimal amount of the course work is outstanding. If this timeline is not met, any further request to submit incomplete work or to write a final examination after that term has elapsed must be made through a formal appeal. At that time a careful review of the amount of course work outstanding will be reviewed as will your circumstances which prevented you from completing the course as well as relevant documentation.
I am certainly sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision but an Incomplete grade is not designed to permit a student to complete the bulk of a course and based on the information received from your instructor, you have only completed the weekly quizzes worth 10% of the final course grade and have not completed three assignments (30%), the three group discussions (20%) and the final exam (40%).
I am however willing to drop this course late Zheng Li. Please email asc.appeal@queensu.ca within 21 days if you wish to proceed with a late drop of ECON 223 (S 2021).
Going forward, I suggest that you carefully evaluate your progress in courses during week 7 of the term and if you are struggling in your courses or if your health is suffering, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
