Dear Avery:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal the circumstances you outlined, and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ASTR 101, ENIN 140, HLTH 101 (F 2021) and WRIT 120 (W 2022) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Please note you also appealed to drop PHIL 111A and FILM 110A but a student cannot appeal to drop the A side (Fall term portion) of a full year course. The NG (no grade) notation has no impact on your cumulative GPA.

I have granted this appeal based on??the severity of your circumstances and the letter of support from your mother. I am also aware that you agreed to be contacted by our Sexual Violence, Prevention and Response Service and I encourage you to work with that office as needed.

Going forward, a good practise for all students is to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
