I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal that you and your family had a difficult Fall and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CISC 251 (F 2021) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
Ahsan, this is a lenient decision since you were unable to provide documentation which demonstrated the impact your situation had on you and your studies, but I understand that your familial responsibilities were significant during Fall term and decided to approve your appeal.
Going forward, you will be responsible for managing the impact of your health or life circumstances on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.
Ahsan, I noticed that you are relying heavily on Consideration to manage deadlines on a regular basis and I am concerned that you may need to be referred to other services that can help support your health and academics such as SASS or Student Wellness Services. I suggest you consider meeting with an Academic Advisor in the future to familiarize yourself with the various support services available to Arts and Science students. Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
