Course: ASTR 101
Term: Fall
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Hum:

On Thursday May 12, 2022 the Board of Studies reviewed your appeal of Associate Dean (Academic) Jenn Stephenson??s decision to deny your request to drop ASTR 101 (Fall 2021) after the deadline. Board members present that day were Johanne Bénard (Chair), Scott-Morgan Straker (Faculty member), Ivan Dimitrov (Faculty member) and Emma Farrell (Student representative)). Pamela Briand (Arts and Science resource staff) was also present.

At this meeting, after carefully reviewing all the written submissions, the Board voted to overturn the Associate Dean??s decision to deny your request for a retroactive drop of ASTR 101. This means your appeal was successful, and you will be granted a late drop ASTR 101.

The Board considers that the medical documentation you provided with your appeal, which consist of two letters from Dr. Ryan Lee (SWS), one dated February 1, 2022, and another dated March 15, 2022, constitute valid proof of the severity of the extenuating circumstances you experienced during the fall of 2021. Given that these letters clearly state that these extenuating circumstances of medical nature had a substantial impact of your ability to function academically during the full term, we didn??t agree with the Associate Dean that more details were necessary to prove that you could not drop the course by the academic deadline of November 1st.

On behalf of the Board of Studies, I hope that your health improves, and I would like to wish you every success as you pursue your educational goals.

Sincerely,

Johanne Bénard
Chair, Board of Studies
