I have carefully considered your appeal to add COMM 211 and COMM 221 after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s ability to add a course within the deadline was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond their control. The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload.
I was sorry to read that these classes were full when you decided to enrol in them however, I want to remind you that Summer registration opened in November of 2021. It appears from your SOLUS enrolment history that you did not attempt to enrol in either of these classes until after the academic deadline had passed in May.
I understand that this is a disappointing decision however, I want to remind you that Summer term classes are condensed and fast-paced. We do not suggest that students take more than 6.0 units during the Summer term. As you know, you are not in good academic standing with the University as your GPA has remained below the 1.6 threshold during the past academic year. I see that you are currently enrolled in 6.0 units of courses for the Summer term and I suggest that you carefully consider whether you can handle this work-load and be sure to drop courses before the academic deadline if you cannot.
