I have carefully considered your appeal for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in COMM 251 (S21). After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
The documentation that you supplied indicates that you have been impacted with health issues since 2015 to which you were engaged in treatment for during the 2021 Summer term while you were enrolled in this course. I also see that you were able to complete other courses to high standards during the subsequent terms after the Summer of 2021 despite the impacts of your extenuating circumstances and so it is unclear why you didn??t complete COMM 251 during the Fall of 2021. I want to remind you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. It is your responsibility to evaluate your progress in each of your courses before the drop deadline of the term. If you have fallen behind or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.
I certainly sympathize with your situation and understand that this is a difficult decision however, I am willing to allow you to drop COMM 251 (S21) after the academic deadline based on the documentation that you supplied dated March 10, 2022 that confirms the academic impacts of your circumstances during the month of June, 2021. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
Going forward, I would suggest that you consider registering with Queen??s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) so that you can work with a Counsellor to help manage the impacts of your health on your academics on an ongoing basis.
