Dear Celine:

I was sorry to read about the challenges you outlined in your letter of appeal related to your General Anxiety Disorder and the subsequent issues related to your medications. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ANAT 215 (F 2021) past the academic deadline and receive credit standing in BCHM 218 (F 2021). After reviewing your file and the support from your instructor, I have decided to grant your request. Your grade in BCHM 218 will appear on your transcript as CR.

I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances, but I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing challenges. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter challenges, or whose challenges become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I would encourage you to continue to work with your health care professionals, including a counsellor from QSAS, to manage both your health and academics. This could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term and dropping courses which are affected by your documented extenuating circumstances.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
