I have carefully considered your appeal to add BCHM 218 (S22) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s ability to add a course within the deadline was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond their control.
The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established in order to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload.
I am sympathetic to your situation and understand that this is a disappointing decision however I want you to know that an instructor is not obligated to accommodate a student who enrolls in a class late. The instructor of BCHM 218 has reported that you have missed too much work in this class to be successful in it. I want to remind you that this is the sixth week of the twelve week May ?? July Summer session.
I acknowledge that you do not meet the prerequisites for your remaining 9.0 units of 400-level BCHM courses due to not having a minimum GPA of 2.5 in 12.0 units of BCHM 218, BCHM 313, BCHM 315, BCHM 316, and BCHM 317. Going forward, I would suggest that you consider repeating one of these classes during the upcoming 2022 Fall term so that you can plan to complete your 400-level requirements during the 2023 Winter term instead.
