Dear Marcus:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal that you have had difficulties since attending Queen??s and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ASTR 101, BIOL 102 (F 2020); PSYC 100 (FW 2020/21); BIOL 103 (W 2021); and BIOL 102, PHIL 151, PHIL 157 (F 2021) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

Marcus, this is a somewhat lenient decision since it is a student??s responsibility to assess their progress in courses prior to the drop deadline and if you were finding online studies difficult, you should have dropped courses by the drop deadline. Going forward you will be responsible for managing the impact of your challenges on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to week 7 and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:

Marcus, I strongly encourage you continue to work with your counsellor at Student Wellness Services and suggest that you discuss with your counsellor the possibility of registering with QSAS. A QSAS Advisor can help put into place appropriate accommodations to help you manage the impact of your health on your academics.?? I also suggest you reach out to the various services available to students at Queen??s including SASS, which can help with study techniques and time management.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
