Dear Myella:
I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for One Year. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
Given your circumstances, I will also drop ASTR 101, HLTH 101 (F 2021); FILM 110, PSYC 100 (FW 2021/22) and GNDS 125 (W 2022) past the academic drop deadline. Your grades in these courses will be changed to DRs on your transcript which will have a positive impact on your GPA and remove the Requirement to Withdraw ruling.
As you continue in your course of study it is your responsibility to take steps for the successful completion of your program and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements of your plan. These are some strategies that I strongly encourage you to consider:
?? Choose courses carefully. Achieving a higher grade in a repeated course will improve your GPA.
?? Reflect on your program choice. Are you in the right Plan/set of courses for your interests and aptitudes?
?? Seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance. Academic counselling is available through your Plan department, or you can book an appointment with an advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services Office. Appointments can be booked through the ?youcanbookme?? services at: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/undergrad-students/student-services/academic-advising/appointment-booking
?? The Student Academic Success Service (https://sass.queensu.ca/) also provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life.
?? The Student Wellness Services Centre https://www.queensu.ca/studentwellness/ located in Mitchell Hall, is available to all Queen??s students free of charge. SWS offers personal counselling as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.
?? Academic Consideration is a process for the university community to provide a compassionate response to assist students experiencing a short-term extenuating circumstance. You can familiarize yourself with your consideration options at: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/accommodations .
Going forward, you should be attentive to your progress and assess whether you are actively engaged and attending classes, completing your readings and assignments. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind in by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter extenuating circumstances after week 8.
Please feel free to contact the Faculty Office for advice or assistance.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
