Dear James:

I was sorry to read that you have encountered visa challenges which made it impossible for you to attend campus this summer term. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop GEOL 106 and GPHY 105 (S 2022) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file including relevant documentation, I have decided to grant your request.

I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in the Important Dates section on the Arts and Science web page. Please ensure you assess your progress in your courses prior to the drop deadline. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop courses by the deadline. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. I understand that it has been drawn to your attention that you are Required to Withdraw from Queens??s for one year. If you wish to appeal that ruling, please submit an appeal to waive the 21-day appeal deadline and outline the reasons why you missed the June 14th appeal deadline related to that ruling.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
