I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal that you had a difficult year, and I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for One Year. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
Given your circumstances, I will also drop RELS 163 (W 2022) and ARTH 120, PSYC 100 (FW 2021/22) past the academic drop deadline. Your grades in these courses will be changed to DRs on your transcript which will have a positive impact on your GPA and remove the Requirement to Withdraw ruling.
Should you decide to return to your studies at Queen??s, please note that it is your responsibility to take steps for the successful completion of your program and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements of your Plan. These are some strategies that I strongly encourage you to consider whether you are at Queen??s or choose to transfer elsewhere:
?? Choose courses carefully.
?? Reflect on your program choice. Are you in the right Plan/set of courses for your interests and aptitudes?
?? Seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance. Academic counselling at Queen??s is available through your Plan department, or you can book an appointment with an advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services Office. ?? The Student Academic Success Service, also available at Queen??s (https://sass.queensu.ca/), provides a range of services including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life.
?? The Student Wellness Services Centre https://www.queensu.ca/studentwellness/ located in Mitchell Hall, is available free of charge to all Queen??s students. SWS offers personal counselling as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature. Most post-secondary schools offer similar programs Ella. Other post secondary schools may also offer a program like our Academic Consideration process which is available to the university community to provide a compassionate response to assist students experiencing a short-term extenuating circumstance. You can familiarize yourself with the Queen??s consideration options at: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/accommodations .
Going forward, you should be attentive to your progress and assess whether you are actively engaged and attending classes, completing your readings and assignments. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind in by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline for Arts and Science at Queen??s). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter extenuating circumstances after week 8.
