I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal that you struggled somewhat during the Fall term 2021 and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PHYS 117 (FW 2021/22) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have granted this appeal based on the circumstances outlined, but also because you made an exerted effort to turn things around in your coursework during Winter term by utilizing the various services available to our students. Your??documentation notes that you sought out counselling and I encourage you to continue to do so as needed. I was also pleased to read that you will consider taking a lighter course load next year if you are still struggling.
Going forward, you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding.
