I have carefully considered your appeal for Credit Standing in MATH 121 (FW2019/2020). After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
Appeal Regulation 3.3.4 states that ??Credit standing is reserved for a student who has completed all of the work of the class, including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the class, but due to illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected.? While your documentation confirms that you were impacted with an extenuating circumstance in April of 2020, the information supplied by your instructor shows that you had other unexplained lower grades in this course that do not correlate with this circumstance. I see that you failed the December exam in this course which occurred well before the Winter term academic drop deadline and the timeline of your extenuating circumstances.
I am sympathetic to your situation and understand that this is a difficult decision however I want to also remind you of the courtesy offer from the Faculty of Arts and Science for 2020 Winter courses. Students were provided with the option to designate a class as a Pass (P grade) once the term had ended. This courtesy offer deadline was even extended to June 10 to allow student additional time to make this academic decision.
If you are concerned about how this grade is affecting your GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating the course. When a student repeats a course, both grades appear on their transcript but only the higher grade is included within their cumulative GPA.
