Dear Hana:

I was sorry to read about the challenges you outlined in your petition letter and I have carefully considered your request to drop PHYS 117 (FW 2021/22) past the academic deadline and receive credit standing in MATH 121 and CHEM 112 (FW 2021/22). After reviewing your file and the support from your instructors, I have decided to grant your request. Your grade in MATH 121 and CHEM 112 will appear on your transcript as CR.

I have granted this petition based on your extenuating circumstances, but I need to warn you that the petition process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing challenges but is designed for students who encounter challenges, or whose challenges become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I would encourage you to reach out to Student Wellness Services who may be able to assist you during this difficult political period. Going forward I suggest that you pause to assess your progress in your courses prior to week 8 of term and drop courses which are affected by your documented extenuating circumstances.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
