Dear XinRan Hu:
I have carefully considered your petition to drop ARTH 250 (W22) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.
I am certainly sympathetic to your situation as I acknowledge that you were sick at the beginning of the Fall term however, I want to remind you that it is your responsibility to assess the impacts of extenuating circumstances on your academics during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term.
I realize that this is a disappointing decision, but I have denied this request as you were aware of the Fall term drop deadline and made the decision to remain in this course despite knowing that you were already behind in the course work at that time.
Please know that a student can request short term academic consideration if they need more time to complete a component or had to miss a class as a result of an illness or other personal circumstance.
