Dear Jonah Tal:

I have carefully considered your petition to drop CHEM 212 (F21), EMPR 100, EMPR 210, and EMPR 220 (F22) after the academic deadline and for Credit Standing in BIOL 243 (F21) and HLTH 230 (W22). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

To grant your request to drop EMPR 100, EMPR 210 and EMPR 220 (F22) as the documentation that you supplied indicates severe academic impacts that began in September of 2022 and that I acknowledge that you weren??t receiving appropriate support for your extenuating circumstances until after the academic drop deadline in November. Your grades in these classes will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.

To deny your request to drop CHEM 212 (F21) and for Credit Standing in BIOL 243 (F21) and HLTH 230 (W22) as the documentation that you supplied shows moderate academic impacts of your extenuating circumstances that began before the drop deadline of these terms. I see that you were able to achieve high grades in other courses during both the 2021 Fall and 2022 Winter terms despite the impacts of your extenuating circumstances and the specific impacts on these courses is not made clear. I want to remind you that it is the student??s responsibility to evaluate their academic progress during Week 7 of each term and make sure to drop courses that they have fallen behind in, or in which you find the material too difficult, by the Week 8 drop deadline.

I am sympathetic to your situation and recognize that this is a difficult decision, however I want to remind you that you were accommodated in all three of these classes. I see that you received academic consideration in CHEM 212 and BIOL 243 in December and the information that I received from the instructor of HLTH 230 indicates that you were accommodated for assignment 2 and was provided a deferred exam. If you are concerned with the impact that these courses have on your cumulative GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating them in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however only the higher attempt will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
