I have carefully considered your petition to take more than 6.0 units of courses on an International Letter of Permission during the 2022/2023 academic year. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
The Academic Petitions and Appeals Regulation 1.1 at https://www.queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/appeal-regulations/ stress that petitions and appeals are only granted where there are significantly extenuating circumstances, which would merit the waiving of a particular Faculty regulation or decision.
I want to remind you of the previous academic petition that was granted on November 30, 2022 that allowed you the opportunity to take 6.0 units on an International Letter of Permission during the 2023 Winter term. At that time, it appeared that you were enrolled in 15.0 units of Queen??s courses and were on track to graduate. I recognize that you decided to take time away from campus to work on a FILM 460 project in Montreal and that this may have impacted your ability to remain in those 15.0 units of enrolled Queen??s courses. I have denied your request to take an additional 3.0 units of courses at another institution during the 2023 Winter term as the information that I received from the instructor of FILM 460 was that travel is not part of the course requirements for FILM 460.
I would suggest that you consider taking your final 3.0 units of electives during the upcoming 2023 Summer term. Please know that Summer registration is open in SOLUS now.
