I want you to know that this was a lenient decision as the documentation that you supplied did not suggest any academic impacts from your extenuating circumstances. I want to remind you that as an upper year student, it is your responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on your classes during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
I also want you to be aware of Academic Regulation 3.7 from the Academic Calendar at https://www.queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/academic-regulations/. Please know that a maximum of 6.0 units from courses offered by other Faculties and Schools may be counted towards the Program and/or Plan requirements of any degree or certificate in the Faculty of Arts and Science. As you have already successfully completed APSC 221 and are currently enrolled in COMM 201, you cannot count any further courses from other Faculties toward your degree program at all, even as electives.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
