I have carefully considered your petition to drop CLST 130, EMPR 100, ECON 255, ECON 212 (F22) and COMM 211 (W23) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
To grant your request to drop CLST 130, EMPR 100, ECON 255 and ECON 212 (F22). I acknowledge the unexpected family-related responsibilities that you experienced and have granted this request due to the timeline and academic impacts of these extenuating circumstances during the 2022 Fall term as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied. Your grades in these courses will be replaced by a ?DR?? notation on your transcript.
To deny your request to drop COMM 211 (W23). As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control.
While I acknowledge that your mental health has continued to be impacted due to the family-related extenuating circumstances which began in the Fall term, the documentation that you supplied does not speak to the 2023 Winter term. As you know it is your responsibility to assess your progress in your courses by week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
As you complete the Winter term, I suggest that you consider utilizing some of the support services available to you, including:
