Dear Mikaela Young-Gayle:
I have carefully considered your petition to drop RELS 131 (S22), EMPR 210 and EMPR 100 (F22) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
1) To deny your request to drop RELS 131 (S22) after the academic deadline. As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.
I am certainly sympathetic to your situation and I recognize that this is a disappointing decision however, your petition request didn??t demonstrate any documented extenuating circumstances that impacted your academic ability during the Summer term. I want to remind you that the drop deadline for this course was July 1, 2022. According to the information that I received from the Arts and Science Online office, you stopped participating in this course after June 5, 2022. It is a student??s responsibility to assess the impact of extenuating circumstances on their academics before the drop deadline of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by the deadline.
2) To deny your request to drop EMPR 100 (F22) after the academic deadline. According to the information that I received from your instructor, you have not completed 50% of this course including a 15% component that was due before your extenuating circumstances began. As the documentation that you supplied suggests that your extenuating circumstances began on November 22, 2022, I am willing to allow you to complete the outstanding components in this class that were due after that date so that you can complete the course successfully. Please connect with Professor Hickey to make the arrangements to complete this course before May 1, 2023.
3) To deny your request to drop EMPR 210 (F22) after the academic deadline. The information that I received from the Department indicates that you have not completed 50% of this course including a 15% contract interpretation assignment and the final exam (35%). I am willing to allow you to complete the outstanding components in this class as well. Please connect with Professor Hickey to make the arrangements to complete this course before May 1, 2023.
Going forward I want to remind you that a student can request short term academic consideration if they need more time to complete a component or had to miss a class as a result of an illness or other personal circumstance.
