Dear Erick:

I was sorry to read of the difficulties you outlined in your petition letters, and I have carefully considered your request to waive the 21-day petition deadline (petition 10312). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant that request.

I have also reviewed your petition ( 10315) to drop CLST 205, HIST 400, PHIL 247, PHIL 330 (F 2021); HIST 242, HIST 400, HIST 449 (W 2022) late as well as extend Incomplete grades in PHIL 316, HIST 246 (W 2021) and PHIL 328 (W 2022). After reviewing this petition, I have decided to grant this request based on your circumstances, documentation, and the input received from your instructors.

Going forward, you should pause and evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of term and drop courses that you are behind in, or not achieving the grades you desire, by the week 8 drop date deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students at Queen's. The petition process is not designed to manage ongoing circumstances.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Erick, I strongly encourage you continue to work with a health professional and to proactively manage the impact of your condition on your academics.
