Decision Letter

Submission Number: 10429
Decision Date: May 15, 2023
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: KIMBERLY BEAZER
Student Email: 1kjb@queensu.ca

Dear Kim:

I have carefully considered your petition to waive the 21-day or one year deadline. After reviewing your petition, I must unfortunately deny your request.

As you know, the academic requirements in the Faculty of Arts and Science are clearly outlined in the Academic Regulation section of the Calendar and were clearly outlined in the Requirement to Withdraw for One Year letter you received. The requirement to petition that ruling within 21 days is in place to ensure fair decision making and provide the student with an opportunity to collect relevant information for their appeal.

While your petition does make reference to health related challenges, there are insufficient circumstances and documentation presented to support reasons why you missed the 21 day appeal deadline. I encourage you to use this time to set up supports so you will be successful when you return to your studies for the 2024-25 academic year.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean??s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/undergraduate/student-services/academic-petitions-and-appeals (click on ??Submit a Board of Studies Appeal Here?). You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities https://www.queensu.ca/ombuds/appeal-process/procedural-fairness and guidance on policy and procedure by visiting their website at https://www.queensu.ca/ombuds/.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
