Dear Anna:
I have carefully considered your petition to drop FILM 200, GPHY 227, HIST 228 (F 2022) after the drop date and receive Credit standing in GPHY 101 and GPHY 243 (F 2022). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
1. To grant your request to drop FILM 200, GPHY 227, HIST 228 (F 2022) based the circumstances outlined as well as the documentation provided.
2. To deny your request for Credit standing in GPHY 101 and GPHY 243 (F 2022). As you may know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all of the work in the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, and met the learning outcomes. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control.
I am however willing to extend the deadline to submit the outstanding course requirement in GPHY 101 since the instructor in that course has agreed to accept the outstanding essay. Please connect with Professor Cameron as soon as possible if you wish to complete that outstanding course requirement. Unfortunately, Professor Collins is no longer at Queen??s so completing the outstanding course requirements is not possible in GPHY 243.
Anna, for your information, if a student repeats a course, the higher grade will be included with the GPA and the lower grade will be excluded.
Going forward, you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the petition process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Another tool to manage your academics is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:
