Dear Sydnee:

I have carefully considered your petition to drop SPAN 111 (F 2021); EMPR 110 (W 2022); PHIL 151 (S 2022); POLS 211, POLS 230, POLS 250 (F 2022) after the drop date and receive Credit standing in POLS 110, PSYC 100 (FW 2021/22) and HLTH 102 (W 2022). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

1. To grant your request to drop SPAN 111 (F 2021) and EMPR 110 (W 2022) based the circumstances outlined and the documentation provided.

2. To grant your request to for Credit standing in PSYC 100, POLS 110 (FW 2021/22) and HLTH 102 W 2022) based on your extenuating circumstances and documentation as well as the input received from your instructors in those courses, confirming the learning outcomes were achieved.

3. To deny your request to drop PHIL 151 (S 2022) and POLS 211, POLS 230, POLS 250 (F 2022) since no documentation was submitted related to those terms.

As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. Appeal Regulation 3.3.1.2 stresses that ??a petition to drop a class late must clearly demonstrate the significant extenuating circumstances, beyond the student??s control, which prevented them from dropping the class by the deadline. Extenuating circumstances normally involve a significant physical or psychological event that is beyond your control and debilitating to your overall academic performance, often taking place after the drop deadline.

Sydnee, for your information, if a student repeats a course, the higher grade will be included with the GPA and the lower grade will be excluded.

Another tool to manage your academics is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:
