Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Decision Letter

Submission Number: 10426
Decision Date: May 19, 2023
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Aanandini Bambawale
Student Email: aanandini.bambawale@queensu.ca

Aanandini:

I have carefully considered your request to Waive the 1 Year Petition Deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

To allow you to submit a subsequent petition request related only to the courses that you had attempted after the 2019 Winter term. As you know, you had the opportunity to make requests related to prior terms within the academic appeal that you submitted in December of 2019.

As you may remember, the 2020 Winter term was unexpected interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. If you are considering petitioning courses from this term, you will have to demonstrate why you did not take advantage of the Faculty of Arts and Science offer to drop failed courses and to receive Credit Standing in passed courses from this term.

Please know that that instructors are not obligated to retain records related to student grades for longer than 1 year after the term ends. If you are considering petitioning for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in any of your courses prior to the 2022 Winter term, you may want to consider petitioning to drop those instead. This also applies to courses that you may have passed and want to ask for Credit Standing in. If you are concerned with the impact that these classes have on your GPA, you may want to consider repeating them. When a student repeats the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on their transcript but only the higher grade will be included within their GPA. Please access on the on-line appeals portal at: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/undergrad-students/student-services/academic-appeals and submit a First Level New petition request for the categories that you wish to ask for. Within your request, you will need to include a petition letter and supporting documentation.

If you have any questions about your subsequent petition, please feel free to contact the Faculty Office for assistance.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean??s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/undergraduate/student-services/academic-petitions-and-appeals (click on ??Submit a Board of Studies Appeal Here?).
