I have carefully considered your petition to add MATH 121 (S23) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload. The Academic Petitions and Appeals Regulation 1.1 at https://www.queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/appeal-regulations/ stress that petitions and appeals are only granted where there are significantly extenuating circumstances, which would merit the waiving of a particular Faculty regulation or decision. Extenuating circumstances normally involve a significant physical or psychological event that is beyond a student??s control and debilitating to their academic performance.
I acknowledge that you were not successful in completing this course during the 2022/2023 academic year and that you wished to repeat it during the Summer however, the instructor of the course has recently let us know that it is too late for them to support any further late adds into MATH 121 as the course is well underway. I want to remind you that Summer term courses are condensed and fast-paced. It is not suggested that a student attempt more than 6.0 units during a Summer term and I see that you are already enrolled in 6.0 units. I would suggest that you plan to repeat MATH 121 during the upcoming 2023/2024 academic year. I also see that you have 12.0 units of Incomplete Grades from other 2023 Winter term courses and it is my sincere hope that you can handle this work-load in addition to your Summer term courses.
I understand that this is a disappointing decision and I encourage you to meet with an Academic Advisor to create an academic plan to help you reach your goals.
