Dear Emma:
I am sorry to have read of the challenges you reported during Winter term 2023 and I have carefully considered your petition to receive Aegrotat Standing in CLST 303, CLST 314, and CLST 405 (W 2023) based on those circumstances. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
Emma, the instructors of these courses have advised me that the grades earned demonstrates the level to which the learning outcomes were achieved and that even a prorated grade in CLST 303 and CLST 405 would be failing grades since you were below a passing mark in the majority of the assignments you submitted. I am however willing to drop CLST 303, CLST 314 and CLST 405 late based on your extenuating circumstances. If you wish to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within the next 15 business days.
Going forward, I strongly suggest that you carefully evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of the term and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in a course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadlines, outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
