Dear Kya:
I am sorry to have read of the challenges you reported during Winter term 2023 and I have carefully considered your petition to receive Aegrotat Standing in ANAT 100, GEOL 106 and GNDS 125 (W 2023) based on those circumstances. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
Kya, the instructor of GNDS 125 advised that you completed only 20% of the course work; the instructor of ANAT 100 advised that you completed only 32.5% of the course work; and the instructor of GEOL 106 indicated that several accommodations were given in that course already.
Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60% of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)?. Aegrotat standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student??s control and the learning outcomes of the course have been satisfied. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control.
I am however willing to drop ANAT 100 and GNDS 125 late based on your extenuating circumstances. If you wish to accept this offer, please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca within the next 15 business days and the F grades in those courses will be changed to DR notations on your transcript.
Going forward, I strongly suggest that you carefully evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of the term and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in a course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadlines, outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
