Dear Darius,

I have carefully considered your appeal to waive your requirement to withdraw for 1 year. After reviewing your level 2 appeal, I have a better understanding that you have made strong efforts to seek grief counselling. It is my belief that your extenuating circumstances are not likely to reoccur going forward. For these reasons I am compelled to waive your requirement to withdraw and allow you to return to studies as of September 2023.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances and since you have sought out help. But I need to caution you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I strongly advise you to continue to seek help in difficult times.

Other tools to manage your academics include dropping a course by the drop date deadline and our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:

Your progression will be assessed again after you have attempted another 18 units. I urge you to take advantage of the resources above as the next assessment would be a requirement to withdraw for 3 years.

Please allow 7-10 days for your transcript and account to be updated.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
