Course: HIST 207
Term: Winter
Year: 2023
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Hafsah:

I have read with interest your petition to drop HIST 207 (W 2023), taking note of the challenges you outlined, and the supporting documentation submitted. After reviewing your petition fully, I have decided to grant your request for the late drop. Alternatively, I am also willing to support an INcomplete grade in this course based on your extenuating circumstances and documentation and since Professor Loucks has kindly agreed to accept the outstanding course requirements. The final day to complete all the course requirements is August 31, 2023.

This is a lenient decision Hafsah since your instructor has advised that by the end of the winter semester you had only submitted 30% of the total course work which includes only one of the four required written assessments (worth 20%) and the only written assessment submitted, in addition to two smaller discussion activities (worth 5% each), was completed February 27. Please contact Professor Loucks as soon as possible to make arrangements regarding due dates for the outstanding course requirements.

Hafsah, if you chose to accept the late drop of HIST 207 rather than complete the course requirements, please email asc.petitions@queenu.ca within 21 days to accept late drop offer.

In the future, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in courses by week 7 of the term and if you are finding the material too difficult or have not kept up with the course work due to your health, you should drop the course by the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadline is set at Week 8 to allow students plenty of time to assess their progress in a class and withdraw without any academic penalty if they feel that they cannot keep up with the demands or have the academic background needed to successfully complete it.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
