Dear Angela Chen:

I have carefully considered your appeal request to drop PHYS 460 (W23) past the academic deadline and for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in CISC 124 (F22). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

To grant your request to drop PHYS 460 (W23) after the academic deadline. Your grade in this course will be replaced with a ‘DR’ notation on your transcript. I have granted this request as I acknowledge that the treatment for your extenuating circumstances didn’t start until March of 2023.

To deny your request for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in CISC 124 (F22). Academic Regulation 10.3.4. states that “Incomplete standing (IN) is a temporary designation reserved for a course in which a student who, because of extenuating circumstances beyond their control, has not completed all term work for a course or requests permission to defer the writing of a final examination. The student must have participated actively in the class and only one or two elements of the course work have not been completed.”

I am certainly sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision however, the information that I received from the instructor indicates that you haven’t completed any of the components in this course to date and so you are not eligible for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in it. I am willing to allow you to drop CISC 124 (22) after the academic deadline due to the timeline and academic impacts of your extenuating circumstances as confirmed by the documentation that you supplied. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca within 10 days of receiving this letter.

If you are concerned with the impact that your grade in this course will have on your cumulative GPA, you may want to consider repeating the class in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your GPA.
