Dear Ajish:
I have carefully considered your request to waive the petition deadline related to your requirement to withdraw. Based on the circumstances outlined and the documentation provided, I will grant your request to waive the petition deadline as well as grant your request to “Waive the Requirement to Withdraw for One year”. You may resume your studies at Queen's University.
This decision was not made lightly Ajish, but missing deadlines does happen, and I can see that it did indeed look like you had no unread messages. I was also pleased to see that your grades improved last year, and I hope to see that trend continue.
Ajish, I see that you struggled in courses during the 2021/22 academic year and if there are documented extenuating circumstances related to that timeframe, you may want to submit a new petition asking to drop those failed courses from that year late.
As you continue in your course of study it is your responsibility to take steps for the successful completion of your program and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements of your plan. These are some strategies that I strongly encourage you to consider:
• Choose courses carefully. I would strongly suggest that you consider repeating previously failed courses since achieving a higher grade in a repeated course will improve your GPA. This course of action will mitigate the risk of being required to withdraw for three years when we next assess your transcript.
• Reflect on your program choice. Are you in the right courses or Plan for your interests and aptitudes?
• Seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic. (Student Academic Success Service (SASS) provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life.
• For your information, the Student Wellness Services Centre located on the first floor of Mitchell Hall, 69 Union Street, offers personal and academic counselling free of charge to all Queen's students, as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.
Going forward, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to week 7 and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:

Please also read carefully the document which will follow this letter. It contains important information concerning your current academic standing. If you have any questions about the information, please contact the Faculty Office to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor.
I wish you success in your future studies.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
