Dear Sofia:
I am sorry to have read of the extenuating circumstance you reported in your petition letter and I have carefully considered your request to receive Aegrotat Standing in MATH 121 (FW 2022/23) based on those circumstances. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
Sofia, I think we have another solution however. Your instructor is willing to change your grade to a passing grade of D- and I will subsequently approve Credit standing in the course which means that your grade will be noted as a CR on your transcript, thus giving you credit in this course but the grade will not negatively impact your GPA. This is highly irregular, but based on your difficult circumstances, it seems to me that this is the best outcome possible. This grade change should also remove you from Academic Probation.
Going forward, I strongly suggest that you carefully evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of the term and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in a course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
