Dear Alexis,

As part of the standard process when appealing to the Board of Studies, the Associate Dean (Academic) reviews your appeal submission. I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the 1-year petition deadline, and for credit standing and for a late drop for Fall 2014 and Winter 2015 courses. I am glad to see that this petition is now supported by documentation. Previously the petition was denied due to a lack of documents. The newly provided documents attest to a new diagnosis, which suggests a need for retroactive accommodation.

I have decided therefore to waive the 1-year petition deadline and in addition to grant a late drop for BIOL 103 (Winter 2015) along with credit standing for courses during 2014-2015 with a grade of C- or below, including BIOL 102, COGS 100 (Fall 2014), KNPE 125, PYSC 100 (Winter 2015).

Going forward, I recommend that you pause and evaluate your courses during week 7 of each term, and if need be, drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the Important Dates section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students at Queen's.

Other tools to manage your academics include our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:

Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS), as part of Student Wellness Services, offers supports to students with ongoing concerns and I would encourage you to connect with them for additional support if needed.

Your transcript will be updated to reflect the dropped and credit standing courses.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
