As part of the standard process when appealing to the Board of Studies, the Associate Dean (Academic) reviews your appeal submission again. I have carefully considered your appeal to waive your requirement to withdraw for 1 year. I have reviewed your level 2 appeal and based on the new evidence provided, I am compelled to waive your requirement to withdraw and allow you to return to studies as of September 2023.
I have granted this appeal based on your new diagnosis and that you have sought out help. But I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I strongly advise you to continue to seek help in difficult times.
Although I have granted this appeal, I would caution you not to enroll in courses in Fall 2023/ Winter 2024 unless you are confident that you have successfully managed your circumstances. Now that this diagnosis is known, future appeals based on these same circumstances are unlikely to be granted.
Other tools to manage your academics include dropping a course by the week 8 drop date deadline, accommodations through Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) (https://www.queensu.ca/studentwellness/accessibility-services), and our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances (https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/undergrad-students/academic-consideration-for-students)
Your progression will be assessed again after you have attempted another 18 units. I urge you to take advantage of the resources above and that your grades are stronger to avoid a requirement to withdraw for 3 years.
