I am sorry to have read in your petition letter the challenges you outlined, and after careful consideration of the circumstances and the documentation submitted, as well as the information supplied by your instructors confirming that the learning outcomes were achieved in CHEM 112, SOCY 122 (FW 2022/23) and BIOL 102 (F 2022), I have decided to grant your petition.
Your grades in these courses will appear on your transcript as CR.
Claire, I strongly recommend that you continue to work with your therapist and suggest you reach out to Student Wellness Services (Student Wellness Services | Queen's University (queensu.ca)) for additional support.
Going forward, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in courses by week 7 of the term and if you find the material too difficult or have not kept up with the course work, you should drop the course by the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadline is set at Week 8 to allow students plenty of time to assess their progress in a class and withdraw without any academic penalty if they feel that they cannot keep up with the demands or have the academic background needed to successfully complete it. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Claire, as you mention, you are currently in BA General program and I suggest that you ‘Change Your Plan” to an Honours degree in May 2024. I know you are hoping to gain entry to a Major in Psychology, but I encourage you to consider a “backup Plan” in case changing to a Major in Psychology is not an option.
