I have carefully considered your request to Waive a Petition Deadline and for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in POLS 350, POLS 445, POLS 347, POLS 392 and POLS 432 (W23). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
To grant your request for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in POLS 350 and POLS 445 (W23). The information that I received from your instructors confirm that you have completed most of the work in these classes and they are willing to allow you an additional opportunity to complete the remaining components during the 2023 Fall term. You are permitted until December 31, 2023 to complete these outstanding papers and it is your responsibility to connect with the instructors of these courses to make the arrangements.
To deny your request for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in POLS 347, POLS 392, and POLS 432 (W23). Academic Petition and Appeal Regulation 3.3.1.5 suggests that once an instructor provides a student with the opportunity to complete outstanding work through an Incomplete Grade, “any further request to submit incomplete work or to write a final examination after that term has elapsed must be made through a petition to the Associate Dean (Academic)…students with extenuating circumstances who have been unable to complete the majority of the work in a class should consider a petition to drop a class after the deadline rather than an extension of the deadline to submit incomplete work.”
I am certainly sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision however, the information that I received from your instructors of these courses indicates that you did not complete enough of the work to be eligible for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade as most of the coursework remains outstanding. The instructor of POLS 347 reports that you had only completed 30% of the coursework. The instructor of POLS 392 reports that most of the course remains outstanding including attendance and participation components. The instructor of POLS 432 reports that you had only completed 20% of the course.
As the documentation that you supplied confirms the academic impacts of your extenuating circumstances during the 2023 Winter term, I am willing to allow you to drop POLS 347, POLS 392, and POLS 432 (W23) after the academic deadline. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca within 15 business days of receiving this letter.
