I have carefully considered your petition to drop DEVS 364, GPHY 351, INDG 301, and RELS 346 (W23) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a ‘DR’ notation on your transcript.

I have granted your request due to the timeline, severity and academic impacts of your extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied. Due to the ongoing impacts of such circumstances, I will also allow you to drop HLTH 101, IDIS 199 and SPAN 111 (S23) after the academic deadline. Mack, I see that you are currently enrolled in 18.0 units for both the 2023 Fall term and 2024 Winter term. Please note that choosing to take more than the recommended number of classes does not constitute sufficient grounds to appeal to retroactively drop a class after the academic deadline, nor to request extensions of such drop deadlines. Going forward, I need to warn you that future petition requests for these same circumstances may not be as successful. It is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
