As part of the standard process when appealing to the Board of Studies, the Associate Dean (Academic) reviews your appeal submission again. I have carefully considered your appeal to waive your requirement to withdraw for 1 year. I have reviewed your level 2 appeal and based on the new evidence provided, I am compelled to waive your requirement to withdraw and allow you to return to studies as of Winter 2024, and for a late drop for courses you failed in winter 2023, as your documentation demonstrates academic impacts during this period.
I have granted this appeal based on the documentation you submitted from two therapists and that you have sought help. But I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I strongly recommend that you continue to seek help in difficult times.
I strongly advised you to connect with an Academic Advisor to make an academic plan, likely involving repeating failed courses from prior terms. In addition, I strongly recommended you continue to connect with QSAS. Similar extenuating circumstances in future will not be grounds for future petitions.
Other tools to manage your academics include dropping a course by the week 8 drop date deadline, accommodations through Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) (https://www.queensu.ca/studentwellness/accessibility-services), and our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances (https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/undergrad-students/academic-consideration-for-students).
Your progression will be assessed again after you have attempted another 18 units. I urge you to take advantage of the resources above and that your grades are stronger to avoid a requirement to withdraw for 3 years.
