Dear Zuxuan:

I am sorry to have read of your extenuating circumstances which you outlined in your petition letter, and I have carefully considered your request to drop PSYC 100, MATH 121 (FW 2022/23) and PHIL 157 (W 2023) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this petition based on your circumstances, and the documentation provided. I am also pleased to read that you have registered with QSAS and sought help from Student Wellness Services. I strongly encourage you continue to work with your support persons and to proactively manage the impact of your condition on your academics.

Going forward, you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the petition process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
